4 Ways to Cool Down Your Sunburn

SunburnSummer is filled with days at the pool, nights roasting marshmallows, and a whole lot of outdoor adventuring. However, amidst all the fun in the sun, your skin can get burned and feel less that excited about another day in the outdoors. If you have a sunburn or are prone to looking like a tomato, here are 3 ways to help soothe your skin and get it feeling back to normal.

  1. Ice It
Have you ever touched your sunburned skin and noticed how warm it is? Cool your skin down from the outside in with a soft ice pack. Simply ice the burned areas for 5-10 minutes at a time for every hour or so. This will not only help to alleviate any pain and discomfort associated with the sunburn but it should help to get rid of it faster as well.
  2. Aloe Vera
I’m sure your grandmother recommended it, your mother recommended it, and now you know that after a sunburn, nothing feels quite as good as putting some aloe vera directly on top of the burn. This gel works to cool the surface of your skin, leaving you with the ability to sleep through the night without the constant sensation of your skin being on fire.
  3. Take a Bath
This solution might sound a little bizarre and maybe even a little stinky. However, by adding one cup of apple cider vinegar to your bath, you can help to balance out the PH levels caused by your sunburn, increasing your healing capabilities and soothing the skin at the same time.
  4. Ibuprofen
Help to alleviate both the pain and the inflammation of your sunburn with some ibuprofen. Simply take 200-400 milligrams every 4 to 6 hours to help ease the pain and make you feeling like your normal self in no time.

Although summer time is filled with lots of fun outdoor activities, it can also wreak havoc on your skin. However, with these 4 tips, you can help to soothe your skin after a sunburn and get to feeling like your normal self again.
