Botox® injections can give patients of Dr. Crais in Sun Valley a younger look without resorting to surgery.
What is Botox® and where does it work?
Botox® injections are one tool in the fight against aging and stress. Botox® can correct or mask wrinkles, fine lines, crow’s feet, forehead furrows, and other visible signs of aging.
This cosmetic treatment is derived from the botulinum toxin A, a toxin that has the ability to paralyze the muscles in the body. The substance can cause paralysis when given in large amounts, but in the case of facial rejuvenation, Botox is only injected in very small amounts to relax specific facial muscles. The procedure is carefully monitored by Dr. Crais.
How will I prepare for my Botox® treatment?
It is important to follow the pre-operative instructions provided by Dr. Crais. Before undergoing the procedure, the patient may be required to stop smoking and avoid alcohol for at least a week prior to the day of treatment. Such substances can affect the body’s healing process and undermine Botox® results in the long run.
Some medications such as aspirin that can promote bleeding will also need to be temporarily stopped. It is also important to make Dr. Crais aware of any sleeping aids, allergy medications, or muscle relaxants that you are currently taking, as these may affect the success of the procedure.
What can I expect during my Botox® procedure?
A Botox® session takes just a few minutes and doesn’t require anesthesia. However, you may request a local anesthetic if you are uncomfortable with injections. The Botox® solution is injected through a fine needle directly into the facial muscles that need treatment.
When will I see the results of my Botox® treatment?
You’ll see the effects of your Botox® treatment three to seven days after your appointment. These results typically last four to six months; you may undergo follow-up sessions if you want to achieve longer-lasting results. The following treatments will most probably produce better results since the muscles will already be “trained” to relax, further minimizing wrinkles, fine lines, and folds on the face.
What side effects can I expect from a Botox® procedure?
You may experience slight temporary bruising and pain on the injection sites. Patients also sometimes get headaches and dizziness following the procedure. If necessary, Dr. Crais will prescribe you with medications to alleviate discomfort.
