Browpexy (Brow Lift)
Due to gravity and aging, the skin along the brows can sag and droop and give the face a lifeless, tired look. Fortunately, patients can regain their youthful appearance with a browpexy.
What is a browpexy?
A browpexy, also known as a brow lift or forehead lift, is a surgical procedure that addresses the wrinkles and deep creases on the forehead. The procedure gives the brows a “lift” and restores the youthful look of the face. A brow lift can correct sagging eyebrows, forehead creases, and even sagging upper eyelids.
What are the different approaches to a browpexy?
A browpexy can be performed in two different ways. The classic or traditional lift involves an incision made on the area parallel to the patient’s ears. This is a single continuous cut that extends around the hairline. Dr. Crais places incisions on inconspicuous areas of the face in order to avoid obvious scarring.
The second approach is known as the endoscopic lift. This method involves the creation of fewer and shorter incisions on the scalp. After incisions are made, an endoscope (a tube with a camera attached to its tip) is inserted. This device provides visualization for the surgeon and helps him manipulate the area properly. During the procedure, Dr. Crais may use small anchors to keep tissues in their appropriate positions. The endoscopic lift is less invasive and creates less scarring.
How do Endotine implants help in a browpexy?
An Endotine Forehead device is utilized during an endoscopic brow lift to securely hold the tissue to its desired position. The use of this device is useful especially during the early healing phase, which is a critical time in the patient’s recovery. The Endotine implants will gradually dissolve as the body absorbs them.
What will happen during a brow lift consultation?
During your initial consultation with Dr. Crais, you will be asked to provide your medical history, including any previous facial surgeries, and your goals and expectations regarding your browpexy. Your initial consultation with Dr. Crais is a vital part of the treatment since he will determine which method to use to achieve your desired results.
How should I prepare for a browpexy?
A brow lift patient will be given specific preoperative instructions. You will be advised to quit smoking, drinking alcohol, and taking certain medications that can affect recovery and results. Anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin may be stopped for a certain period of time as they interfere with the blood clotting ability of the body.
What can I expect during my browpexy?
The brow lift operation may be done at Dr. Crais’ office or in a hospital on an outpatient basis. This procedure is usually completed within two hours, yet your surgeon may ask you to stay overnight so that you can be monitored closely. You will need to arrange for someone to drive you to and from your surgery, and to help out the first couple days when you are back home.
